Born and Raised in Riverside, California

I am proud to have the opportunity to seek the position of Riverside Mayor. Born in the low income area of Casa Blanca I attended local Riverside Public Schools and Graduated from Riverside Poly High School. I attended Riverside City College transferred to University of California Riverside and completed my Bachelors and Masters Degree in Sociology and Educational Counseling at California State University San Bernardino. I am proud to have been a Riverside Press-Enterprise paperboy, dishwasher, gardener, and a box boy at Stater Bros. Market prior to beginning my work with Riverside County Probation Department. I also worked as a Gang Intervention Counselor and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor prior to starting my company Innovative Rehabilitation Services here Riverside. I have been self-employed for over 37 years which included managing and employing 3 full-time offices and 23 full time employees.

I was elected in 2006 to the Riverside City Council for Ward 2 and I am currently serving in my 4th term as a Council Member. In nearly 14 years of service I have many accomplishments. I have been able to transition our Eastside Community by removing bad hotels, liquor stores and badly managed night clubs to improve the quality of life in partnership with local non-profits. I am the Founder of the Riverside Arts Academy, established the Youth Opportunity Center and assisted with completing funding for the Centro De Ninos Child Care Center. I Partnered with University of California Riverside on student housing issues and much more.

I was part of the Riverside Renaissance 1.6 billion dollar investment which infused the City with infrastructure upgrades to parks, streets, sewers, water treatment plant and related capital improvements which took Riverside to the next level.

Also in my tenure as Ward 2 City Council Member we experienced one of the worst United States economic downturns in history. With my strong background in business operation, a full understanding of City Governance and strong communications with my colleagues we were able pass appropriate policies and make necessary adjustments to stabilize City finances.

As for the overwhelming homeless problem, we will continue to work to minimize the issue with supportive housing, connections to federal and county services, reaching out to homeless veterans, reaching out to surrounding cities to coordinates services more efficiently and develop polices to better address the issue.

I am excited about the opportunity to represent you as Mayor of our City and I look forward to your support.
